It’s hard to believe that Casey’s Invisalign treatment is now complete and she is very happy with the result. With her lower arch treatment complete in November 2015 it took just a few months and some final movements to complete the upper arch. The initial concern for Casey’s Invisalign treatment was her front tooth that was dispositioned and discoloured due to trauma as a child. As you can see from the before and after photos this has been corrected with a final veneer to be placed in the coming weeks.
Casey was able to have all of the upper attachments removed and has now moved into her retention phase. For Casey this means that she now wears retainers every night to hold the teeth position. Some people may be required to wear retainers full time the first 6 months
depending on your individual case and the amount of movement that has taken place. Retention is vital to the success of Invisalign or any orthodontic treatment. Without compliant retainer wear the teeth can often move out of alignment or relapse to their original position. If retainers are lost or damaged it is important to come in to have them replaced.
With finishing her treatment Casey was
able to have her remaining attachments removed. These tooth coloured attachments provide an anchor for the tooth to be moved into the correct position more easily. Casey has also undertaken a new veneer preparation where her existing veneer was removed and remaining tooth structure prepared in order for a new veneer to be placed which will create the final and aesthetic result which Casey desired.
Prior to the veneer preparation Casey whitened for 4 days to achieve a brighter shade. As her retainers are custom made she was able to use them as bleaching trays. Prior to the veneer preparation Casey went to the dental technician for a shade review where and ideal shade was selected to match the surrounding teeth. We will keep you updated with Casey’s final result as her new veneer is under construction with the dental technician.
Casey’s top tips for those undertaking Invisalign treatment include;
- If edges of aligners feel sharp to smooth over with a nail file
- Take caution with foods and drink that may stain eg. Curries, Red wine, Tea (Casey had an unfortunate incident with Turmeric Tea which resulted with yellow aligners for the next week)
- Soaking aligners in Listerine whitening mouthwash for 30 minutes now and then can help keep them clean and free of stain/debris
